Stars scorecard

Former UNLV star Scott Lewis found himself in familiar surroundings Thursday night, but in an unfamiliar situation. Lewis, who won 30 games for the Rebels from 1985-88, found himself locked in a rare Pacific Coast League pitchers' duel with Tacoma starter Tim Harikkala through six innings. Lewis gave up only one run -- a home run by Raul Ibanez in the second inning -- on four hits and struck out five through six innings, and was lifted from the game after giving up a leadoff single in the seventh. The runner eventually scored off reliever Ron Villone, but Lewis (0-1) was stuck with the loss. "I'm pretty happy," Lewis said of his first start for the Stars. "I gave up the one home run but in half of these parks, that's a fly ball. We just got out-pitched tonight. If I could give up only two runs every time I pitched here, I would be pretty happy." ... The Rainiers pushed across the go-ahead run in the seventh on a squeeze bunt by Julio Peguero. Tacoma added three runs in the eighth against Pete Walker on a run-scoring double-play ball by Andy Sheets and a two-run home run by Greg Pirkl. ... The Stars got their lone run in the sixth on a one-out double by Ira Smith and a two-out RBI single by Mike Sharperson. ... Second baseman Homer Bush and first baseman Jason Thompson both have five-game hitting streaks for the Stars.

Upcoming games

In tonight's series and homestand finale at 7:05, the Stars will send left-hander Glenn Dishman (0-0, 8.31) to the mound to face Rainiers right-hander Salomon Torres (0-1, 14.40).

The Stars begin a 12-game, 13-day trip to Salt Lake, Tacoma and Vancouver on Saturday. Monday's 6:05 p.m. game from Salt Lake will mark the first of six Stars telecasts this season on Prime Cable channels 1 and 48.
