Oral historians to host workshops

On May 4-5, oral historians will present videotapes and talks of subjects including black migrants to Las Vegas, Korean immigrants in the region, the lives and families of showgirls, Japanese-American military veterans, women nurses, teachers, lawyers and judges, Indians, Latinos, soldiers and miners exposed to nuclear radiation, and the pioneers of Lander County.

The Southwest Oral History Association, founded in 1981, promotes oral history in Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Southern California as a means of exploring and recording the history, cultures and lifestyles of the people of the Southwest. Its members come from libraries, historical societies, museums, universities, community groups and the community at large.

Boomtown will be the site of the workshops and meeting. For information call Joanne Goodwin, 895-1026, or Steve Novak, (310) 825-7524.
