2 LV residents die in stabbings

A 33-year-old mentally disturbed man was arrested today in the beating and stabbing death of his mother, Metro Police said.

The incident occurred nine hours after an 18-year-old man was stabbed to death in an alley in a separate incident.

At 4:30 a.m. today, neighbors called police when they heard screaming coming from the house at 708 Dyke Lane off Bonanza Road and Rancho Drive, homicide Sgt. Kevin Manning said.

Patrol officers found Fred Finger with blood on his hands and clothes a couple of houses away from the house where he lived with his mother and a boarder.

Officers found a bloody knife in front of a different house two doors away, Manning said. But he said investigators didn't know if the woman was beaten or stabbed to death.

The unidentified woman, who moved here from Germany two years ago, was dead on the floor in a back room.

The house was under renovation, and a makeshift bedroom was set up for the woman in the back yard behind a chicken-wire fence.

A boarder, Jose Zavala, who was sleeping in an inside room, said he was awakened by "voices and screaming." When he got up to see what was happening, Finger had already left the house, he said.

Charles Kerr, a next-door neighbor who said he would talk with the woman as she worked in her vegetable garden, often heard yelling coming from inside the home.

"I'd hear stuff being thrown, windows being broken," Kerr said. "Her son threw tantrums."

Manning said Finger was "on medication for some kind of disorder."

Kerr also said the woman "talked about Germany all the time and how she missed it and wanted to move back."

In Tuesday's murder just before 7 p.m., 18-year-old Livan Rodriguez Perez was stabbed to death by two men who chased him down the street near the man's apartment at 317 W. Cincinnati Ave., near Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard South, witnesses told police.

Perez was in an alley south of the apartment complex where he met up with two men, Sgt. Ken Hefner said today. They chased him and stabbed him, he said. Perez made his way back to the apartment complex where he collapsed.

Perez was taken to University Medical Center, but he died during surgery at 9:03 p.m., a nursing supervisor said.

Hefner said a motive was not known.
