Career Fair joins jobs with jobless

Job seekers should dress for success for the JobsAmerica Career Fair.

The event, one of the fastest-growing job marketplaces in Southern Nevada, is Wednesday at Cashman Field Center, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:30-6:30 p.m.

The fair is cosponsored by JobsAmerica, the Nevada Broadcasters Association, Southern Nevada Radio Association and the Las Vegas Employment News.

This is the second annual JobsAmerica Career Fair in Las Vegas and it's growing, according to JobsAmerica President and CEO Jim Stoch.

"We have about 20 companies who will be there this year," said Stoch.

"This is a great benefit to both companies and job-seekers. You can do everything in one place at one time," he said, adding that a career fair advertisement in Sunday's newspaper has generated about 40 calls a day from job seekers.

And there's free admission, free career seminars and free photocopying services available.

The seminars will cover topics such as networking and job search strategies for the '90s.

Bob Fisher, president and CEO of Nevada Broadcasters Association, urged anyone looking for a job to attend.

He said a variety of companies with jobs to offer will have representatives on hand.

"We've got casinos like Bally's, Harrah's and MGM Grand interested in finding people for a number of different positions. Plus there's insurance companies, McDonald's, America West Airlines and many others. And the thing that makes this different is that interviews will be taking place right there," he said.

Available jobs run the gamut from dealers, cocktail and food servers, slot technicians, race and sports book writers and housekeepers in the gaming industry to customer service representatives, loan processors, human resources recruiters, purchasing agents, accountants and receptionists in other companies.

There are broadcast opportunities for photographers and artists, as well as on-air and production, station management, advertising and public relations.

Those interested in sales, retail and restaurant management, security and other fields should also stop by, according to Fisher.

"There's all types of jobs. It's not just for young people or college graduates. All people need to do is dress nice -- dress for an interview -- and bring a resume. There's plenty of opportunities," he said.
