Police seek clues in homeless man’s death

SUN STAFF REPORTS

Metro Police are clueless in the weekend stabbing death of a 47-year-old homeless man. The victim, a vagrant whom police said panhandled at the Interstate 15 off-ramp at Sahara Avenue, was last seen alive by a friend at 7 p.m. Friday, police said.

When the friend returned to the area at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, he found the victim in a concrete drainage tunnel on the north side of Sahara at I-15.

The man had several stab wounds to his upper torso, police said.

The victim, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, regularly stood on the off-ramp carrying a sign that said "Will work for food," homicide Sgt. Kevin Manning said.

Robbery did not appear to be a motive, Manning said, noting that "we don't have a clue."
