Car wash for missing woman raises $800

More than $800 was raised this weekend to help a local man's search for his mother.

"It really meant a lot that so many people in the community came out to help," said David Turner, 31, shortly after Saturday's six-hour car wash at Chief Auto Parts, 3480 S. Rainbow Blvd. "I'm touched that so many people care about my mom."

About a dozen of Turner's classmates from UNLV led the suds attack. More than 160 autos were scrubbed clean, among them cars belonging to Metro Police detectives who have been working since mid-February to find 58-year-old Barbara Turner-Elliot.

Chief Auto Parts donated water, soap and sponges, and Pepsi-Cola of Las Vegas provided free drinks. Local radio stations have been providing public service announcements about Turner-Elliot's disappearance.

Donations from the car wash will help pay for a private investigator and to raise the $2,000 reward for information that can find Turner-Elliot, a University Medical Center social worker.

Turner-Elliot was last seen about 5 p.m. Feb. 19 when she picked up a prescription at Sav-On pharmacy at Rainbow Boulevard and Flamingo Road. The prescription was found inside her abondoned car in a deserted parking lot at Angel Park Golf Course five hours later. She has not been seen since.
