Twin has dual roles in ‘Ring Round the Moon’

One man will play unidentical-in-nature twins at UNLV Performing Arts Center's rendition of Jean Anouihl's "Ring Round the Moon," starting April 12.

Matt Boethin will portray shy and sensitive Frederic. Boethin will also play Frederic's heartless and aggressive twin brother, Hugo.

"It's a very beautiful, fragile comedy where issues of love, class and money come into play," said guest director Andrea Urice.

Though the play was written in 1947, the UNLV performance will be set in pre-World War II France during the 1930s.

A wealthy woman hosts a party at her estate in celebration of the betrothal of Frederic and rich, spoiled Diana (Kathy Ambler). But Hugo wants Diana for himself and hires poor and innocent Isabelle (Christy Zollar) to to charm his brother.

Hugo uses Isabelle as a pawn in his scheme to move in on his brother's territory. The ensuing actions make the relatives and friends at the party look at themselves differently, Urice said.

The other cast members are Brian Anderson, Michael Sernal, Lara Van Liere, Tony Del Valle, Linsey Hamilton, Kelly Roth, Michael Harris and Dawn Copeland.

The set is by guest designer Celine Perron, with lights by Ryk Souza and costumes by Kartrina Herfelder.

Urice, who taught at UNLV's College of Fine and Performing Arts during the 1995 spring semester, has come back to direct the fable-like play.
