Richard Moran was convicted of murder. Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on March 30, Gov. Bob Miller and Nevada are also guilty of murder, the intent of which is premeditated revenge.
When I was a young child (in the sacred 1950s), my mother and just about every other adult I knew told my friends and me that two wrongs don't make a right.
I guess we continue to believe this when it's homies in the hood wreaking revenge -- or Palestinians and Israelis in Israel, or Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland, or Serbs, Croatians and Muslims in Bosnia -- but not when the state is involved.
We call state-sanctioned revenge justice.
Richard Moran was convicted of a heinous crime, murder. With the execution of Richard Moran, we in Nevada are guilty of that same crime, no matter how we rationalize our action.
