Fund-raising projects are not appropriate for schools

However, I have a serious problem. She came home today, her first day back to school after vacation, with information on another fund raiser.

For starters, I do not appreciate public schools exploiting my daughter and many other children to raise money for their pet projects. I realize there is not enough money for all the things they may need or want, but she feels guilty if she does not sell her quota.

Furthermore, the product she must peddle this time around is coupons for pizza. One $10 coupon gives the buyer a small discount on a whopping 48 pizzas!

Do the good teachers at our elementary school not know that heart and coronary disease, caused by people's poor diet and inactive lifestyle, is still the biggest killer in the country?

Maybe, in the future, they will ask her to peddle alcohol and tobacco as well!
