CARSON CITY -- A 20-year-old inmate from Clark County suffered leg wounds after guards skipped birdshot rounds into the ground to break up a fight at the Nevada State Prison.
Gilberto Aranda, according to prison officials, ignored two verbal warnings and two warning shots from guards to stop fighting Monday. Aranda had allegedly attacked another inmate in the prison yard.
Aranda was taken to Washoe Medical Center in Reno for treatment and prison officials said his condition is not life threatening. He is serving a 10-year sentence for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
The incident is under investigation and prison operations continued as normal.
