City Gives Reprieve to Troubled Hotel

The Queen of Hearts Hotel was threatened with the loss of business licenses after a December drive-by murder.

But hotel owner Ann Meyers reached a tentative agreement Monday with city attorneys that would allow the hotel to remain open, subject to various restrictions.

The council must give final approval April 17.

Mayor Jan Jones says she still has concerns about what is happening at the hotel.

Las Vegas Metro Police reluctantly approved the proposal.

Police were called to the hotel 680 times during 1994 and 1995.

The hotel sits kitty-corner from the Clark County Detention Center. Meyers says many inmates who are released from jail spend their first nights of freedom at the hotel and celebrate at the bar.

One of the conditions of remaining open is that the bar will be closed for 30 days, then reopen but close at midnight the next four months.
