Calif. man dies following accident on I-15

A 30-year-old San Diego County man was killed and four others were injured after their van flipped out of control one mile south of Jean, ejecting two passengers.

Driver Chien Chil Lai, 25, told Nevada Highway Patrol troopers that a truck cut in front of her about 5:25 p.m. Monday near mile marker 11 on southbound Interstate 15, forcing her 1991 Mazda minivan into the dirt median.

Lai's efforts to steer back onto the paved surface sent the van flipping across the freeway, said Trooper Steve Harney.

Tzufong Tseng, 30, of San Marcos and Gina Lai, 22, of Encinitas were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the van, Harney said.

Tseng and Gina Lai were flown by Flight for Life helicopter to University Medical Center, where Tseng died shortly after arrival, Harney said.

The driver and passengers Suchi Huang, 19, and Kuo Chiung Yin, 26, all of the San Diego area, were transported to UMC with moderate injuries, authorities said.

The accident remains under investigation.

"Citations could be pending, based upon the results of the investigation," Harney said. "At this point, investigators have no evidence that the driver was cut off because there are no marks on the roadway to show she jerked. But it is still early. That information may come out later."
