Metro should seek federal funds to hire more police

So Sheriff Jerry Keller is once again asking for millions of dollars, through tax increases, for hundreds of additional police officers.

Everyone within the jurisdiction of Metro knows we need more street officers, not paper-pushers.

However, I was under the impression that the president's pet crime bill, as passed, included money for thousands more police officers. Of course, the state and municipalities will have to come up with the funds when the money from the feds dries up in three years, as the bill states.

Why don't our sheriff and senators go for more federal money from the tax-and-spend in the halls of Congress and the White House?
