Seven players hit in double figures Friday night as ninth-ranked UNLV rushed the University of New Mexico 121-96 at Las Vegas Convention Center. It was the Rebels’ 50th straight home victory. UNLV is now 12-1 while the Lobos dropped to 10-5.
Hitting in double digits for the winners were Sam Smith and Glen Gondrezick with 20 each, Robert Smith with Lou Brown and Eddie Owens with 16 each and Tony Smith with 10.
The game’s scoring honors went to the Lobos’ Marvin Johnson, who delivered 28 points, 21 of them coming in the first half when New Mexico led 54-52.
With less than 10 minutes to play, the Rebels went on an 18-point scoring binge while holding the Lobos to three points to take a commanding 100-81 lead.
