Alan Continues Tribute to Elvis

The young entertainer whose impressions of Elvis Presley has made him into a coming name himself conceded Tuesday he never met his idol.

Alan Meyer, 29, who simply goes by Alan, shares co-star billing at the Tropicana Hotel with his successful and crowd-packing show call "Alan Sings A Tribute to Elvis."

He held a news conference two hours after hearing about the death of the man he never met.

"I have made my show a documentary to show what Elvis really was like, the shocking impact his talent has on people."

Alan was subdued. You could tell the death of his idol hit him hard.

He said he started singing the songs Elvis made famous when he was seven and started his impressions of Presley professionally three years ago in Seattle.

"I never really planned to do him, but about four years ago I got tired of all these guys imitating him and making fun of him and decided to do him as he really was."

The slender impressionist who has remarkable resemblance to Elvis, complete to the custom-styled tousled locks of hair, said he felt compelled to continue doing his tribute to Elvis.

"His own talent kept him popular for twenty years, there'll never be another like him."

He said he never had tried to contact Presley but that the Elvis manager had caught his show and was impressed.

Alan declined to comment on his own future in the wake of Presley's death, and said he was undecided about going to his idol's funeral.

He first had planned to cancel last night's performance of Elvis, then decided to go ahead.

The show was sold out by midafternnoon, said Mitzi Briggs, the owner of the famed hotel.

By early evening, both the 10 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. shows were completely reserved.
