More than 70 television and movie stars were scheduled to arrive in Las Vegas Sunday morning to take part in the nationally televised Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon.
The 21-hour spectacular will be broadcast live from the Sahara Hotel Space Center on KLAS-TV, Channel aid in the battle against Muscular Dystrophy, a disease characterized by progressive degeneration of muscle tissue.
Telethon hours are from 6 p.m. Sunday to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Labor Day.
The 70 celebrities were due to arrive from Hollywood, via Hughes Air West plane, at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The plane will put down at the United Airlines overnight parking area, at the south end of McCarran Airport.
Ron Lewis, Jerry Lewis’ son and the Telethon’s co-production manager, will escort the group. The Hollywood personalities will man the celebrity phones on stage at the Sahara Space Center, in 14-man teams working in shifts of two to three hours.
