Animal Shelters

Whether you are looking for a lost pet or in the market for a new one, the Henderson Animal Control Bureau is the right place to start. According to the bureau’s site, they also provide medical care, vaccination, spaying and neutering and microchip identification chips for all pets.

Lost and Found

The Henderson Animal Shelter handles 600 to 700 animals each month, which is about 22 to 25 animals a day. The shelter is open Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for adoptions and 4 p.m. for lost and found, then on Wednesday and Thursday they are open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for adoptions, 6 p.m. for lost and found. The shelter is closed Sundays and all federal recognized holidays.

Pets can be viewed online 24-hours-a-day at PetHarbor, just follow the prompts for entering the zip code (for the facility, 89011), click search, check Henderson Animal Care and Control, then browse the photos for lost pets. Another option would be to call them at 702-267-4970 and leave a description of lost pets, where they were lost and where you can be contacted. Also, if you find a pet, by law you must call the shelter and leave your information so they can come pick up the animal.

Adoptions

There are adoptions available at the shelter too. Cats and kittens can be adopted for $55, dogs and puppies for $65 and ferrets for $55. The fees include vaccines, spay or neutering, microchip ID and registration and a rabies tag or Henderson license. They can be paid for with a check or cash. There is one prerequisite for adoption and that is if the adopted dog is larger than a cocker spaniel or considered a large breed, an Animal Control officer will check that the place of residence is enclosed with a fence at least six-feet high. More adoption guidelines and regulations can be found on the Animal Control Web site.
