Geoffrey Todd Smith solo exhibition at Main Gallery
Main Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a solo exhibition by Chicago based artist Geoffrey Todd Smith. Smith's repetitive pattern works on paper are characterized by groupings of dots painted in gouache, which are then tediously embellished by hand using gel pens. The pieces evoke moments from pop culture, recent art history, design, and activities such as videogames, jigsaw puzzles, and doodling. Looking You Up To Look You Up & Down continues a body of work that refers to the act of viewing. The titles given to each work provide insight into a thought process, but rarely reveal the entire story; they are intended to capture a certain rhythm, cadence or mood. As the title and image are related to one another the viewer is rewarded with a narrative that may evolve with each subsequent visit.
