Summer Splash Event for Nathaniel Jones Park Grand Opening on June 23 - Fun, free for whole family
Nathaniel Jones Park at the Mountain’s Edge master plan is hosting a Summer Splash event to celebrate its official grand opening. The free event will be 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, June 23 at the 20-acre park, located at 8800 Sparkling Chandon Dr. in the best-selling master planned community developed by Focus Property Group in southwest Las Vegas.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. will be held near the park entrance. Summer Splash activities will feature inflatable water slides and a Squirt Gun Fight Tent that will house an activity that’s similar to paintball but with squirt guns. The tent will have large barrels for people to maneuver between and hide behind to squirt their friends and family with water. Squirt guns will be provided or attendees can bring their own.
Festivities also will include a deejay, dancing, arts and crafts, scavenger hunt, petting zoo, pony rides, booths and other activities highlighting the new park, which offers a lighted basketball court, tot lot with shade structure, splash pad, large turf areas, walking trails and shade structures. Several food vendors will be selling hamburger, hot dogs, funnel cakes and other cool treats.
Park landscaping and design follows Focus Property Group’s commitment to protecting the natural desert environment and conservation. Plants, shrubs, trees and ground covering in the park and throughout the southwest Las Vegas master plan are drought tolerant, requiring minimal water to thrive, while still providing large shrub massing and color to enhance the area’s aesthetic quality and natural beauty.
In keeping with Mountain’s Edge’s tradition of honoring early Las Vegas Valley pioneers, the park is named for the supervisor of one of the region’s first large-scale projects. When lead and silver reserves were discovered at nearby Potosi Mountain, Nathaniel Jones was sent by Brigham Young to oversee a mining operation in conjunction with the creation of a nearby Mormon outpost and fort in 1855.
