I thought going to a political debate in Ward 3 would be enlightening, but to my complete and total shock, the little I did see, once again shows me that Las Vegas is NOT your normal American city.
At the start, the debate was shifted into a well disorganized mess of micro-politics or better known as political selectiveness.
Attourney Tony Liker, a legitimate as any hopeful for the Ward 3 seat, was granted 3 minutes to speak. How much can you say in three minutes and introduce yourself? Well after a fast introduction he headed into his opinion on brothels within Las Vegas.
Immediately pointing out the supporter of said brothels within Las Vegas, being Mr Coffin, brought out the more boisterous, proclaimed owner of the Mesquite Club, demanding Mr liker to stop speaking.
Three minutes is three minutes no matter what loyalty you have to anyone. I as a veteran, FOUGHT for those freedom of speech rights, and because of a supposed "miscommunication" between Mr Likers office and the moderators office, he only had three minutes to speak?
I would have loved to speak up but the total shock I was in kept me quiet. It was amazing to see the basic rights of someone INVITED to speak, AT A DEBATE, get quelled by a non-biased (?) moderator, and a 3 minute fire drill that I thought Mr Like handled very well under the circumstances.
Ward 3 should be ashamed of allowing debates to take place in any shape or form, under the guise of being fair and allowing legitimate candidates to speak their opinions.
