The Orleans Hotel & Casino Summer Blood Drive Saves Lives

Las Vegas (Aug. 13, 2014) - Lifeguards aren’t the only ones who will be saving lives this summer. The residents of Las Vegas will too, by donating blood. Unfortunately, during the hot months of the year, donors often are in short supply. Many are on vacation or out having fun in the sun.

“It’s no secret,” said Paul Milakeve, Donor Recruitment Manager with United Blood Services. “People simply are much busier than they are at other times of the year. Although donors might have other things to do, patients continue to need blood.”

Blood can be stored for only 42 days. Eligible donors are encouraged to give blood regularly, three or four times a year, to keep hospital shelves stocked with lifesaving blood.

The Orleans Hotel & Casino’s upcoming drive is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 at 4500 W. Tropicana Ave. in Las Vegas. All volunteer blood donors at this blood drive must be 21 years of age or older.

All donors 21 and over will receive a voucher for one to the French Market Buffet, good for breakfast or lunch, Monday to Saturday only. This offer excludes dinner, Sunday brunch and all day passes.

People unable to donate are encouraged to recruit those who can. Anyone who can’t make it to the blood drive is welcome to visit United Blood Services anytime during the year.
