Contest Aims to Inspire Early Detection for Cancer

21st Century Oncology is hosting a contest aimed at bringing awareness to the importance of getting screened for cancer. The 21st Century Oncology of Las Vegas Early Detection Contest urges Southern Nevada residents to share their stories online about why they think early detection is important. The resident who submits the best video or written submission to the website www.earlydetectionlv.com will receive a $1,000 grand prize.

The most often recommended cancer screenings are for breast, prostate, colon and cervical cancers. When detected early, survival rates for many cancers increase dramatically. According to The National Cancer Institute, our nation has made great progress toward major cancer-related objectives. Death rates for the four most common cancers (lung, colon, breast and prostate), as well as for all cancers combined, continue to decline.

“At 21st Century Oncology of Las Vegas, we are determined to help make more progress in the fight against cancer and encourage members of our community to get regular screenings for cancer,” says Brian Lawenda, M.D., Board Certified Radiation Oncologist with 21st Century Oncology. “This Early Detection Contest is a fun way to get the word out about the importance of regular screenings for cancer.”

Submissions to the contest can be written, or any style of film or video, including but not limited to, song, animation, drama, still art, imagery, comedy or documentary. The length of the video must be less than one minute and any written story must be less than 500 words. The contest deadline is Sunday, July 27, 2014 at midnight pacific time. The winner will be contacted by Saturday, August 9, 2014.
