Landmark Same-Sex Wedding to Air This Week

(Las Vegas, NV)— History will be made this week in the LGBTQ community, when R&B; Diva star Monifah Carter’s recent wedding to her longtime girlfriend Terez Mychelle airs on TV One this Wednesday at 10pm EDT.
The event, which took place February 8, 2014, in Honolulu, will mark the first same-sex African-American wedding on television in the US.

The celebration, produced by Las Vegas-based celebrity same-sex wedding planner Brit Bertino of Brit Bertino, Event Excellence, included a custom bridge for Monifah’s processional, a ceremony canopy featuring 4,000 stemmed ombre orchids, and special music performances throughout the day by Mahi, Rahsaan Patterson, Keke Wyatt and Syleena Johnson.

“We initially drew inspiration from Monifah’s amethyst engagement ring,” explains Bertino, who divides her time between her Las Vegas and Los Angeles offices, but traveled to Hawaii to oversee the wedding weekend. “The brides sought natural elements and we proposed a modern ombre concept to complement this vision.”

Other special touches included the “Fat Snack” table, which included vegan-gluten free peanut butter cookies made especially for Terez by the Chef. In lieu of a traditional guest book, the couple asked their honored guests to write down their best wishes and advice for the couple on how to keep and maintain a successful marriage throughout the years.

While Bertino takes great pride in the execution of so many memorable details, she is particularly honored to have played such an important role in this milestone event.

“No design element, culinary theme, or guest book could overshadow the significance and beauty of a day that joined two lives together,” shares Bertino. “It was a pleasure to be a part of such a historic moment for the LGBTQ community.”
