MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS HENDERSON NEVADA GREEN VALLEY STAKE OFFER A DAY OF SERVICE

An estimated 250 to 300 members of the Henderson Nevada Green Valley Stake  of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints volunteered their time cleaning debris from Pittman Wash on Saturday, March 22. It was estimated that up to 3 tons of trash was removed.

Their efforts are part of a "Day of Service" to aid the community. Members of the church pattern their lives after the example set by Jesus Christ. By offering unselfish service, members follow the Savior’s example.

The clean up effort was spearheaded by President Garth Rasmussen, Second Counselor in the Henderson Nevada Green Valley Stake Presidency. “Our stake’s Day of Service is a great way for us to help our community and experience the joy that service brings,” said President Rasmussen. “There is a scripture in the Book of Mormon that says, ‘…when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.’ Service is something that benefits everyone.”

A "stake" is a group of 10 neighboring congregations. Each congregation was assigned a section of the wash to clean out debris. Debris ranged from household trash to large items including an inflatable pool. Numerous tires were also removed.

Pitman wash drains into Lake Mead which is a source of drinking water for Southern Nevada.
