PRESS RELEASE

It's not often you get the chance to RAISE THE ROOF atop one of Las Vegas' Turnberry Place already lofty towers, but on Saturday, April 12, 2014, Opera Las Vegas invites you to take part in a dazzling, high-energy, high-altitude extravaganza overlooking the Strip skyline. Coming to town and commanding the rooftop performance is world-renowned star of opera, film and Broadway, Julia Migenes.

A native New Yorker, Migenes was selected by the great Leonard Bernstein to be a soloist in his Young People Concert series. She began her Broadway career as part of the original cast of "Fiddler on the Roof" with Zero Mostel, and she interpreted Maria in "West Side Story." Her real passion was singing, which led her to a coveted cover contract at the New York Metropolitan Opera. Word of this star crossed the Atlantic, providing Migenes to embrace the stage version of "Salome" in Geneva. She was the ideal combination of singer and dancer.

The American mezzo-soprano starred in the film version of "Carmen", which has become a reference work in the filmed opera genre. The soundtrack brought her a Grammy Award and opened the door for Migenes in virtually every theater of the world. She has more than 20 albums recorded and is best known for her wicked wit. For her one-night Las Vegas exclusive appearance with Opera Las Vegas, Migenes has tailored a stunning show that incorporates a very bold diva, a piano and a killer rooftop view of the Strip at night. What better place to belt out arias and Broadway show tunes that will send shivers down every spine in the room?

The Opera Las Vegas RAISE THE ROOF performance begins at 7:30 p.m. with guests arriving to convenient valet parking, a quick whisk up the elevator to the penthouse suite, and the prompt supply of a cocktail and hors d'oeuvres. Proceeds from the black-tie optional event will be directed to Opera Las Vegas' 2014-2015 season, which opens June 6-8 with "The Barber of Seville" main stage production in the Judy Bayley Theatre on the UNLV Campus.

Tickets for RAISE THE ROOF are $300 per person and includes a meet-and-greet opportunity with Julia Migenes. To receive an invitation and for reservation information contact Nancy Dailey of OLV, 702-629-4165.

Opera Las Vegas is a (501) (c) (3) organization founded in 1999. OLV General Director is international soprano Luana DeVol, and Artistic Director is Gregory Buchalter of The Metropolitan Opera.
