Mesquite Club presents CSI – Community Service Involvement

Published on Sun, Jan 12, 2014 (8:46 a.m.)

Las Vegas, NV – A Century of Service (1911-present)
Since 1911, the Mesquite Club has served the community of Las Vegas as a women's service organization. We have dedicated ourselves to improving our community and the lives of Las Vegas citizens by promoting education, culture and service. Our first work began with planting over 2,000 trees throughout the Las Vegas valley. We also founded the first library. We have provided initial funding for METRO"s Secret Witness Program, which is now operating as Crime Stoppers. Today, we continue to provide a helping hand to those in need. The Ladies of Mesquite have shown, for over 100 years, caring and compassion for our community.

What we do
We have spearhead varied philanthropic projects of which Mesquite Club members donate their time, financial support and energy. A recent example is, this December 10, Evening Mesquite Club presented a check in the amount of $10,288.54 to Paralympic Sports Club, LV. A representative of the Paralympics LV presented us with a framed photo collage of handicapped kids involved in sports as a thank you for the donation. The funds were raised at our Annual Holiday Craft Auction in November 2013. The Evening Scholarship Fund will also benefit from the fundraiser. We will be awarding $3,000 in scholarships for young women attending a Nevada institute of higher learning.

Other organizations supported by the club include but are not limited to Doris French Elementary School, Shade Tree Shelter, USO, Melanoma Research Foundation, Kids to Kids Reading Program, items for women's shelters and the Salvation Army canned goods drive.
