Published on Mon, Nov 25, 2013 (4:21 p.m.)

Guitarist Zilla Johnson and photographer Anne Carter are among the artists to share their works at the Lost City Museum’s annual holiday open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. The free event features live entertainment, light refreshments and a raffle with the chance to win specialty gift baskets. Proceeds go to the museum’s community outreach programs held throughout the year. Raffle tickets will be on sale until the drawing at 2 p.m. for six for $5 or $1 each. Ticket holders need not be present to win.

“We hope our community and our neighbors will bring their family and friends to enjoy this day with us,” said museum director Jerrie Clarke. “Our museum store will be open and stocked with a variety of unique items that make great gifts, including Nevada 150 sesquicentennial merchandise, new this year, and Native American jewelry, crafts, and books.”

The Lost City Museum in Overton was built by the National Park Service in 1935 to exhibit artifacts that were being excavated from Pueblo Grande de Nevada. Programs include ongoing archaeological research on the remaining Lost City sites, school tours, changing exhibits and an archival library.

The museum actively engages people in understanding and celebrating Nevada’s natural and cultural heritage. It is one of seven managed by the Nevada Division of Museums and History an agency of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. Admission is $5, children and members enter free. The museum is at 721 South Moapa Valley Blvd. in Overton. Take Interstate 15 to exit 93. Access is also available from Lake Mead National Recreation Area or the Valley of Fire State Park. Call (702) 397-2193 for more information.
