Local Legal Blog Included in Top 100 Nationally
Published on Mon, Nov 25, 2013 (3:29 p.m.)Today local attorney Michael P. Lowry’s Compelling Discovery blog was named to the ABA Journal’s 7th Annual “Blawg” 100 list of top legal industry blogs. Readers nominated their favorite blogs in August and the ABA Journal editors announced their selections Monday afternoon. In order to be selected, each blog must post on a regular basis and offer its readers original content.
“This is a surprising honor,” said Mr. Lowry, who works at the local law firm Thorndal, Armstrong, Delk, Balkenbush & Eisinger. “There are many good lawyers who write excellent blogs. The fact that Compelling Discovery’s readers would nominate it is just as humbling as being chosen by the ABA Journal’s editors.”
Compelling Discovery launched in June, 2012 and covers what the courts call the discovery process. When a lawsuit is filed, each side is allowed to use the discovery process investigate the matters at issue. It is often the most expensive part of the case, sometimes even more than trial. The discovery process makes or breaks many cases and, as a result, in many courts very few cases actually go to trial. In 2012, 98.8% of all cases filed in federal courts never got to trial. Given this, Compelling Discovery posts at least once a week about best practices in discovery and the sometimes spectacular consequences when those practices are not followed.
