'First Ladies First' An Informative Gathering & Conversation With Nevada’s Former First Ladies
Published on Fri, Nov 8, 2013 (12:55 p.m.)Women of Diversity Productions, Inc. (WOD) is hosting “First Ladies First,” an afternoon conversation among the public with five former First Ladies of Nevada: Kathryn List, Bonnie Bryan, Sandy Miller, Dema Guinn and Dawn Gibbons. This historic event will be held at Caesar’s Palace on Saturday, January 11, 2014, from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. The women will discuss their respective roles, challenges, special projects, and daily routines while residing in the spotlight of the governor’s Mansion. Each former First Lady will be introduced by First Lady Kathleen Sandoval.
“First Ladies First” marks the inauguration of WOD’s Nevada Sesquicentennial project, Nevada Women’s Legacy – 150 Years of Excellence, a year-long series of events celebrating ways in which Nevada women shaped the state’s growth and development. According to WOD president, Marlene Adrian, “This is important
work. Business and commerce opened economic opportunities, but the networks and support systems that women developed helped create sustainable communities. We would be remiss if we did not recognize women’s roles in Nevada’s history during the Sesquicentennial.” The Sesquicentennial is a great opportunity to learn more about women’s history and encourage others to send in stories about other women who have made a difference.
A gathering and conversation such as this has never been done and is timely as we celebrate Nevada turning one hundred and fifty. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be the spouse of a governor in Nevada? What roles could you create when living in the Governor's Mansion in Carson City? This event is
the time and place to ask these questions and converse with the former First Ladies.
The Nevada Women’s Legacy project wants to document as many of our women of today and those in the past as we seek to collect, permanently display and store oral histories, video interviews, documents, photographs and personal memorabilia of women in every county of the state. Women and women’s organizations are invited and encouraged to participate in this effort.
Women of Diversity Productions, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization. Caesar’s Entertainment, Inc. is the primary sponsor for the “First Ladies First” event. The public is invited to reserve free tickets on-line. Details will be available in mid-November and on the website at www.nevadawomensvirtualcenter.org.
