Community Publishing FAQ

Q: Why is something I submitted to Facebook, Flickr or YouTube appearing on this site?
A: The system that runs the LasVegasSun.com and the Home News sites persistently searches these sites for items that are tagged with terms the site editors feel are relevant to our readers in the valley. When an photo or video with these tags is found, our editors take a look at it and, if they feel it's appropriate for other readers, it is approved for publication on our sites. Note: The photos and videos that you see on LasVegasSun.com are uploaded only to the original sites (such as the three listed above). They are not uploaded to our servers or hardware.

Q: I know some readers might find some content on social-networking and content-sharing sites like Facebook and YouTube to be objectionable. Is there an approval process before photos or videos appear on LasVegasSun.com?
A: Yes. Our site editors view each item and make sure it's appropriate for LasVegasSun.com before letting it appear on the site.

Q: I'd prefer not to have the items I submit to these other sites appear on LasVegasSun.com. How can I keep this from happening?
A: Please e-mail us at [email protected] with a link to the photo or video and we will make sure it's off the site. Also, you can change the privacy settings on your account on these other sites to mark your content private so that our searches won't find them.

Q: How do I directly submit a photo or video to LasVegasSun.com?
A: First, you'll need an account on Flickr or YouTube. Then, add a tag of "lasvegassun" to what you would like to see on the site. For photos uploaded to your Facebook profile, you must log in to our Facebook application or submit photos individually using the form on your LasVegasSun.com profile page. You may also submit items from Flickr or YouTube on that page.

Q: Do you have access to my password for any of these other sites if I give you my username?
A: No. We do not gain access to your password, which is still encrypted on the original site.

Q: Who do I contact if I feel something is inappropriate?
A: Please e-mail us at [email protected] with a link to the photo or video you find objectionable.

Q: I don't have an account on Facebook, Flickr or YouTube, but I do have one on another site (Picasa, Vimeo, Blip.tv, etc.). Do you have a way I can submit items from these sites?
A: We do not currently accept submissions from sites other than Facebook, Flickr or YouTube, but we are in the process of adding support for other services. You will be able to find submission information for them on your LasVegasSun.com profile page as soon as we've finished. If there are any sites you feel we're missing, please e-mail us at [email protected].
