Remarks by Sarah Palin

Winning the West - RNC
(A team of Sun reporters is at the Republican National Convention this week in St. Paul.)
ST. PAUL, Minn. — Vice Presidential pick Sarah Palin has left the hall, and so have half the attendees.
The roll call is now underway, but does it really matter?
Palin charmed the crowd here, no doubt. They loved her lines about not being part of the Washington establishment, the way she poked fun at the stagecraft last week in Denver (noting the Styrofoam Greek columns), her family waving to the crowd.
How did she play outside the hall, with the swing voters and women the John McCain campaign needs to capture?
Technorati

She had a grand opportunity to wow us with her firm grasp of the issues.
But she didn't do that. She left out all those pesky details like homeland security and foreign policy, and brought in pithy, sarcastic whining about Obama.
To tell the truth? She came across as fiercely insecure.
LOL.....She did terrible...just awful....very very bad......Lord to God.......the Democrats should just stop campaigning because they got a lock.
They need to do nothing.....Obama should take a vacation...
theBS has spoken!
To use her own "Pit Bull" analogy...
She was all bark, no bite.
But do tell us, Nance: where was the SUBSTANCE. Where was the foreign policy? The national security?
She was accepting the Vice Presidency and couldn't be bothered to throw in some substance.
But she sure was good for a laugh!
There was no substance, thebs. There was tons of scorn, but no substance.
Geez, ask a gal a few questions and she gets mighty defensive! Kinda like a cornered cat, all harsh and hissing!
LOL, I guess we'll still have to wonder about what she stands for, other than her extreme dislike of Obama!!!!
What's she gonna do for us? How would she protect us if she became President? How would she run the economy? Who knows?!?!?!?
Her speech had about the same about of policy positions that Biden's speech did.
Biden's and Palin's speeched both a narrative about their lives.
Biden's and Palin's speeches both dedicate a large section to attacking the opposite side's top of the ticket. That is a critical role of a VP during the campaign.
So, I guess you were really pissed about Biden, too. Or is this another "female is held to a different standard" thing?
She talk about policy some. You just had your fingers in your ears.
Hard to hear when you do that.
1) McCain/Palin is for using all of America's energy sources to become more energy independnet and unlike Obama's who struggles with using the trillions of dollars of oil and gas that have been locked up or using coal from Penn and W. Virg. or just mildly interest in Nuclear power.
2) McCain/Palin want to ensure that victory is complete because victory is occuring in Iraq. Obama wants to run away when it victory is very near.
3) McCain/Palin's have a pro-growth economic plan. Obama promises to introduce a heavy set of new taxes on the US economy.
Just a FYI, the top of the ticket sets the policy for the ticket and not the bottom of the ticket.
She sure does have an ability to deliever speech.
Does she not?
She is a lot like Obama in many ways.
No, Nance her speech couldn't TOUCH Biden's speech with a 10-foot pole.
"Barack Obama will reform our tax code. He’ll cut taxes for 95 percent of the American people who draw a paycheck. That’s the change we need."
"Barack Obama will transform our economy by making alternative energy a genuine national priority, creating 5 million new jobs and finally freeing us from the grip of foreign oil. That’s the change we need."
"Barack Obama knows that any country that out teaches us today will out-compete us tomorrow. He’ll invest in the next generation of teachers. He’ll make college more affordable. That’s the change we need."
"Barack Obama will bring down health care costs by $2,500 for the typical family, and, at long last, deliver affordable, accessible health care for all Americans. That’s the change we need."
"Barack Obama will put more cops on the streets, put the “security” back in Social Security and never give up until we achieve equal pay for women. That’s the change we need."
"As we gather here tonight, our country is less secure and more isolated than at any time in recent history. The Bush-McCain foreign policy has dug us into a very deep hole with very few friends to help us climb out. For the last seven years, this administration has failed to face the biggest forces shaping this century: the emergence of Russia, China and India as great powers; the spread of lethal weapons; the shortage of secure supplies of energy, food and water; the challenge of climate change; and the resurgence of fundamentalism in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the real central front against terrorism."
"In recent days, we’ve once again seen the consequences of this neglect with Russia’s challenge to the free and democratic country of Georgia. Barack Obama and I will end this neglect. We will hold Russia accountable for its actions, and we’ll help the people of Georgia rebuild."
"I’ve been on the ground in Georgia, Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan, and I can tell you in no uncertain terms: this administration’s policy has been an abject failure. America cannot afford four more years of this."
"The fact is, al-Qaida and the Taliban — the people who actually attacked us on 9/11 — have regrouped in those mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan and are plotting new attacks. And the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff echoed Barack’s call for more troops."
THAT is substance, Nance.
Talk about the challenge and opportunity we face. Talk about the threat of al Qaeda, the Taliban, Russia and China.
Palin is a show pony.
Palin answered the questions brought up since she was named by McCain. Then she took off. She could probably win the election by herself after that speech.
Anyone who thinks Obama has anything over the Republican VP, had really better think again. He offered so much less substance, that it should be enough to make him run in fear. But he and the people who need him as a Trojan Horse, will keep spinning.
I doubt the people of the U.S. will be convinced that Obama has the leadership abilities to be President. True, many of them have been charmed, but charm only gets you so far.
Two months until the vote. Ayers, Rev. Wright, All of the Obama message board supporters with their threats, foul language and intimidation, physical intimidation by the Obama squad at the primary caucus level, intimidation of super delegates to switch from Hillary to Obama, Soros, and Rezko, speeches where the candidates said he would debate, but never showed up, Ludacris and JayZ, trashing of women candidates and voters, will all be remembered in November.
Keep up the good work Obama message board attackers, you have served your candidate well by making him look like what he is, an angry, verbally and physically threatening, man, who will not let little things like rules keep him from voter fraud if it helps him, and re-writing campaign districts to serve himself. Then there is that little issue of never voting on any important issue, reversing his position when it suits him, and just telling lies in general.
Palin cleaned his clock. She addressed every issue that Obama has brought up. As we know he is always creating new "positions" that he has always held, and people just didn't know about it because they were not paying attention. Yeah, Obama, you really fooled me when I wasn't paying attention to every word you said which can be checked out in case you didn't notice.
As the Rev. Wright said, "Obama hasn't changed what he believes, he just has to say so because he is a politician." Well, at least one man in Obama's life is honest, even if he is nuts. AIDs created by the government...yeah.
thebs - do you really believe all those rosy projections that "might" happen were obama to be elected? that's a lot of smoke someone's blowing.
The appeal of Palin is she is a governor and has some experience running a state - whereas obama has none. So in a way she is more qualified than he is.
It's going to be painfully obvious for the Dems in the next couple of weeks that attacking her experience was a bad move.
kids are off limits----unless sarah wants to use them as a prop. cant wait til news of her affair hits the press.
mikeg, the Republicans want all the credit for Palin's "experience?" OK!
Then they better choke on how she took a tiny town of 7000 from a balanced budget when she took office to $22 MILLION in debt when she left.
That's AFTER she lobbied Congress for $26.9 MILLION in earmarks for Wasilla.
That's AFTER she raised the sales tax on hard-working families to pay for her money-pit Ice Rink that has failed, for years, to turn a profit.
She even traveled to Washington annually to beg for earmarks.
Let's see, going from a balanced budget to a record deficit? Sounds EXACTLY like Bush.
So if you want to run on her "experience" you better be ready to answer for it.
Libby, since you said Palin answered the questions brought up since she was picked by McCain.
What does she plan to do about the Russian/Georgian conflict?
How will she stop the nuclear intentions of Iran?
Does she consider Syria a friend, foe, or something inbetween?
How will she work with the new Prime Minister of Pakistan to rid the tribal areas of al Qaeda?
When given the chance to really stun us with her knowledge, she pandered to Limbaugh and Hannity with sarcastic venom and no substance.
On a night when three failed Republicans contenders took to the stage it was entirely appropos that Palin collapse in overeager sneering.
I am not sure if anybody remembers anything about the Biden's speech. I saw an old man use a recording of it to go asleep each night.
I know you are a crazed liberal democrat and you will refuse to give Palin or McCain any credit for anything. You are man that thinks Bush has never done anything right. I am sure that you carry that same attitude to McCain and Palin. It is an attitude that explains why often the extreme left do not understand the rest of the country, include the middle independents.
So it would be pointless to argue or try to convince you other wise.
It is up to the all voters....not just theBS to judge her.
The two speeches are not that much different. Palin's speech is longer. Biden's speech was shockingly a short speech. Palin had 4 to 6 points that dealt with policy. Biden maybe had 6 to 8 points that dealt with policy.
There are over 60 days left in the campaign.
I am sure that your friends are hard at work at NBC, CBS, ABC, NY Times and LA Times to find ways to help Obama to win.
It should be a slam dunk year for Democrats.
You are probably still favored to win.
If Obama loses then somebody should sue the Democratic Party for political malpractice.
They should do that if especially, according to you, that a little non-substance girl from a small town beats your butt.
Can't count, either, Nance?
1. Reform tax code
2. Cut Taxes for 95% of Americans
3. Alternative Energy a National Priority
4. 5 million new green jobs
5. Invest in next-gen teachers
6. College more affordable
7. Reduce health care costs by $2500
8. Affordable, accessible access to health care
more cops on the streets
9. secure Social Security
10. equal pay for women
11. emergence of Russia, China and India
12. spread of lethal weapons
13. shortage of secure supplies of food, water, energy
14. climate change
15. fundamentalism in Afghanistan and Pakistan
16. hold Russia accountable
17. help Georgia rebuild
18. threat of al Qaeda and Taliban
19. more troops needed in Afghan/Paki border
19 policy and foreign policy stands in 9 paragraphs, in 5 minutes of Biden's speech.
You can't find anything even remotely comparable in Palin's speech.
I must have missed her mention of Israel. Where was that, Nance? Where was her mention of fundamentalist Islam? I guess she doesn't think Israel is a priority or Islamic fundamentalism is a problem.
My point stands and it's something you can't refute: Biden blew her out of the water when it comes to what really matters: substance.
All the pithy jabs in the world won't secure us from al Qaeda.
Darn, I can't count either! 20! Even worse for you!
OK...You win.
Obama/Biden should beat the pants off the weak little no-substance small town girl.
theBs has deemed the race OVER!
Hey...did not Biden say that the surge could never work.
Did not he say that we should cut up Iraq into three or more countries?
Brillant plan...by Biden.....excellent foreign policy skills.
Brillant mind at work there........
No side effects to dividing Iraq into small parts.
It would have been a very easy plan to pull off.
Brillant brillant mind.....
According to the experts, theBS, Obama/Biden are light years ahead in sheer brillancy over McCain/Palin.
Obama/Biden should be 10 to 20 points ahead next week.
Well, other than you can't spell "brilliant" correctly, let me point out the supreme irony of your comment.
You have a stronger and deeper knowledge of Joe Biden's foreign policy than of Sarah Palin's foreign policy... and you support Palin.
Does Sarah Palin support a 3-state Iraq?
Nobody knows! You support her and you can't answer that question.
So why don't you put your excellent sleuthing skills to work and find out why Palin's hiding under a rock and evading all interviews and hard questions. While you're at it, find out her foreign policy positions.
Inquiring minds want to know.
Governors do not generate position papers on non-state matters like foreign policy or national policy that do not effect their states.
She only has been VP for 3 days.
Wow....I think the Democrats must be so scare of Palin that they have this obession about her that is borderline nuts.
I am sure that you are looking forward to the Biden debate.
Surely, the almighty foreign policy expert Biden will beat the little no-substance small town weak mother.
I think Biden is right.
We need a vice president of substance. A vice president who can stand toe-to-toe with Putin or Medvedev.
Would Sarah Palin negotiate with Russia, or just sarcastically insult them?
That kind of attitude is not becoming of the Vice President of the United States.
Yes, you are right.
It is absolutely nuts to tell the American people how you feel about Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq BEFORE you accept the nomination for the Veep spot.
Your party should just nominate you and HOPE you have the right positions.
LOL!
You are right.
Biden is a very strong and excellent VP candidate. His plan to divide Iraq into three or more countries was on an Einstein level.
He should dance circles around the little no-substance small town mother from the backward small state.
I'll say again, since you so obviously avoided my point:
You have a stronger and deeper knowledge of Joe Biden's foreign policy than of Sarah Palin's foreign policy... and you support Palin.
Does Sarah Palin support a 3-state Iraq?
Nobody knows! You support her and you can't answer that question.
So why don't you put your excellent sleuthing skills to work and find out why Palin's hiding under a rock and evading all interviews and hard questions. While you're at it, find out her foreign policy positions.
Inquiring minds and inquiring voters want to know.
When I listened to Obama and Biden's speeches, I felt like they were gunning for a better future.
With Sarah Palin's speech, she didn't lay out any positive plans on education, health care or the economy.
Palin was very disappointing.
I think this Democratic obession with a VP pick is amazing.
I think the Democrats are talking more about Palin then their own candidate now.
I do not have a problem with it.
I think Republicans spent two seconds on Biden. Biden is not important factor in this race. It is funny. Biden's selection was offically release in a 3:00 AM text message. Democrats know how to throw a big party for their VP. Nobody remembers anything that Biden says or cares what Biden is doing.
I guess the little mother from a small town has that effect on Democrats.
It has driven them nuts!
Hey want to know where that 'country first' theme came from??
http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/09/03...
alot more going on here than we know.
Also whats going on with this as well???

STALLING THE TROOPERGATE INVESTIGATION?
Let's see, Obama smoked and snorted cocaine when he was younger. Biden cheated on tests, on speeches and any other thing he got his hands on. McCain was a POW and refused to go home first. Palin killed moose and grizzly bears - by hand. Hmmmm... who will I vote for?
She should be president.
Hey Eggman, do you support Gee Dubya? He was an alcoholic AND a coke fiend until about the time he turned 40. Wonder if that bothered you at all.
Oh I'm sorry; I forgot. It only bothers you if the person has a "D" after their name, right?
Re: "killed moose and grizzly bears - by hand" .... IF I believed that (I don't), I'm not so sure this is a selling point for anyone except the barbarians who think WAR KILL WAR KILL is the answer to everything.
Apparently Palin scares the hell out of the left. An articulate woman that has her feet planted firmly on the ground and rooted in expecting government to do what's right for the people. She should scare them.
Yes, her storied history of destroying small village governments with $22 million in debt is scary.
Her storied history of jaunting off to Washington every year to lobby for earmarks scares me.
Her storied history of "pledging not to stand in the way" of the Bridge to Nowhere, then turning around when she found out what the rest of America thought... scares me.
Her storied history of asking the local librarian in Wasilla to BAN BOOKS scares me.
The fact that she thinks the Iraq war is a "task from God" scares me.
It's scaring me right into the voting booth to vote for Obama/Biden.
I find bloggers who have their minds made up and post crap on here like this over and over again very funny. Neither side listens to what the other is saying, they just try to cherry pick phrases and words to use for their points.
As a middle of the road person who hasn't decided yet, I wanted to listen to what she said and how she spoke. The media built her up as a feeble scared little girl who would be eaten alive. She did very well in her speech in my opinion, very effective, articulate and not at all what she'd been built up as in the media.
She introduced herself like Biden did, talked about what she was about like Biden did, put down the other side like Biden did, talked in macro terms of what she wanted to see happen like Biden did, and tried to put on a positive tone to all of these again, like Biden did.
I give the acceptance speech round to Palin over Biden, but I've never voted for a VP (Quale, Gore, Quale) and won't this time.
I look forward to them fighting it out in the debates, and to what McCain says tonight to compare to Obama, which does matter more to me and will sway my vote. If McCain comes off as a stiff or in line with Bush that will make my vote decision for me.
P.S. posting heresay stuff on the blogs only makes you look foolish, think about it...
Wow! Judging from all of the highly negative spun Left-Wing comments here, I can safely assume that the Democrats are running scared! Interesting. Personally, I wouldn't vote for someone who couldn't pass a military security clearance yet wants to be in charge of the miliatry. Secondly, I wouldn't vote for someone with Marxist/Socialist leanings and who believes in the Nanny State type of government. Third, Obama is just your typical attorney politician who speaks out of both sides of his face telling you what you want to hear. Anybody voting for him is a dupe.
Wow, Doug; don't think you missed a talking point. Talk about spinning!
"The media built her up as a feeble scared little girl who would be eaten alive."
Perhaps you can point me to those stories because I seem to have missed them.
BTW, and this is JMHO, your words belie your claim of being "middle of the road". If I read you correctly, you're going to base your support on someone's convention speech. You claim that if he "comes off ... in line with Bush" that will make your decision for you. Well, check the Congressional Record. Now THAT'S an unbiased source, don't you think? McCain has voted with Bush 90% of the time. Don't think you can get much more "in line with Bush" than that.
Unless, of course, your mind is already set and this was just another plant to make it appear that "middle of the road-ers" are being swayed by Maverick McCain.
Nah. You guys wouldn't do that, would you? LOL.
