(A team of Sun reporters is at the Republican National Convention this week in St. Paul.)
Charlie Black, a D.C. legend and key adviser to Sen. John McCain, just addressed the Nevada delegation.
Personal and best wishes from John and Cindy McCain. John McCain’s been a personal friend for more than 30 years, he said.
"I don’t think I’ve ever, in thousands of conversations, I don’t think I’ve ever had a conversation with him that wasn’t about politics. Until today. Until today. He repeated his desire that he wants people at this convention to take your minds off politics, and think about what you can do to help.
"He said very simply to pray for the people of Louisiana, other Gulf states, for their maximum safety. Pray for first responders and ask them to participate in this broad based effort.
"Get on the telephone with friends and relatives and help us get broad-based participation ... it truly does demonstrate this man is about country first."
Black says McCain will likely address convention delegates Thursday night.
Also, McCain will be back in Nevada a lot, Black said: "He will be seeing you frequently in the next couple of months."
