As big as it looked

Obama accepts nomination

Sun Expanded Coverage

(The Sun has gone on the road to listen to voters and talk to political leaders around the West. Reporters have been examining the economic, cultural and demographic forces re-shaping the region as they drove to Denver for the first of the two major party conventions the Sun will cover. This week they are at the Democratic National Convention.)

DENVER - Well, you saw what we saw as Sen. Barack Obama "with profound gratitude and great humility" accepted the Democratic party's presidential nomination.

If it felt like it looked big on TV, know that it was here in Denver.

No need to count ballons in the drop at the end of this convention. Fireworks for a new day from the Democrats.

The largest nomination acceptance in history, the convention organizer said.

The Nevada delegation had great seats on the floor, and surely will have stories to tell.

It'll be interesting to see how the Republicans compare next week in St. Paul.

We'll be there.

  1. You mean the "twins in the Twin Cities"?

    "Thanks, but, no thanks."

    "FOUR MORE MONTHS!"

    "EIGHT IS ENOUGH!"

  2. Obama the Messiah has arrived in all his glory and splendor.

    All Hail Obama!

We should now bend our knees and bow our heads to the Almighty and Wise Obama!

May he forgive us for our bitterness.

May he teach us to not cling to our guns and religion to deal with our problems.

  3. "May he forgive us for our bitterness."

I'd be bitter too if my party had had a quarter of a century to prove itself, six years of controlling both houses and the executive, and eight years of Bush, and had absolutely nothing to show but a bankrupted country, culture and idealogy.

    How sad for you.

    CJ

  4. He's not asking anybody to bend their knees to him, that's the beauty of his message. He doesn't want anyone to bow to him, but rather, he wants everyone to understand that he's just as much an American as you or I or CJ or any citizen of this great country. We're all equal, he gets it and he's asking all Americans to get it as well.

Obama is saying that he respects all of our opinions on guns and religion and gay marriage and abortion and everything else. He's asking us all to meet on common American ground and work together as Americans to do what we can together to push this great country to more greatness.

4 more years of polar divisiveness will further cripple our economy, our global stature, our moral backbone.

  5. After reading this breathless account, something tells me you're not exactly going to be gushing over the Repub convention.

  6. Can't say until we actually see it. Admittedly, our expectations aren't very high given the cast of characters.

  7. "Obama is saying that he respects all of our opinions on guns and religion"

Wow...I guess he did an 180 on that.

Does he still think that people who do not vote for him are bitter and cling to guns and religion to deal with their problems?

    Has Obama flip-flop again?

  8. The acceptance speech was beautiful to watch. With great humility and gratitude the spectacle was beautiful. It reminded me of the opening ceremony of the Olympics. The fireworks from the stage and the stadium to help the crowd feel the emotion. This after stopping the primary election before it was over. This after controlling the convention vote and pressuring your opposition to participate in the sham on television or be an outsider for life back in Washington. Yes, it reminded me of China, a great show, freedom ringing out, the spectacle to see, and the cover up of the century.

  9. It sure was impressive. Listening to the speech, I remarked, "Wow, he sure knows how to whip a crowd into a frenzy." My husband said, "So did Hitler."

    I guess we're too old!

  10. Yeah, the same old, tired attacks are just that......old and tired. Here we go all over again with the fear and hate, speaking of hitler.

  11. Ah yes, a LV SUN blog wouldn't be complete without the fearmongering from GOD. As I sit here nibbling on my free cheese (thankyouverymuch by the way) I notice GOD likes to use people's middle names quite liberally, I guess to infer fear into the masses by trying to associate a person's name with another person's actions. I've heard of guilty by association before, but guilty simply because your name is the same as some other person? How ludicrous is that? But, if that's how GOD rolls, then I must tell GOD my middle name is Jesus. And since it's the same name, by GOD's logic, I must be of immaculate birth and able to perform miracles. hmmm....that would answer some questions I have about my parents.
