Vegas Play of the Day: Oakland at Kansas City

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Oakland at Kansas City, total Under 6.5 (-110): $330 to win $300 : This is the only option on the betting board today, meaning I’m stuck handicapping a game I’m not in love with.

I know this: Playoff baseball games typically go under the total runs. And playoff games with good pitchers — Oakland’s Jon Lester and Kansas City’s James Shields — are so attractive to go under that oddsmakers set a ridiculously low total. Hence, being stuck playing at 6.5.

Both teams have struggled at times this season scoring runs, especially Oakland in the final two months of the season. Lester and Shields have playoff experience. They’ll be at their best, keeping the score tight.
