Vegas Play of the Day: Fresno State at Boise State

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Fresno State plus-17 at Boise State: $330 to win $300

I’m in full free-fall mode, so if you play this game, I would advise fading me until I turn it around. Unfortunately, college basketball doesn’t start for another month, so I’m just going to hope I can keep it above $10,000 until then.

For today’s play, we’re going to the Mountain West, the home of mediocrity. Last week, I saw a Fresno State team that somehow beat San Diego State, albeit with a freshman quarterback, come in and lose at Sam Boyd Stadium. Now, they head to the blue turf, where the Broncos are 4-2 ATS this year and 12-1 ATS in their last 13 meetings with the Bulldogs.

Based on that info, I wouldn’t blame anyone for backing Boise. But in this league, I’m not comfortable laying that many points with any team. Two weeks ago, the Broncos were minus-12.5 at Air Force and lost by 14.

I’m not expecting the same type of upset tonight, but I’d rather be getting points when the bottom line is that this league’s teams just aren’t very good this year.
