Opening lines: Football betting starts early this week

Sports bettors won’t have to wait until Thursday to get their fix of football action this week.

The return of the Sun Belt Conference’s Tuesday night special for the first time this year means football betting boards will only be dark one night, Wednesday, all week. It’s often joked that the only people watching football on Tuesday night are those with bets riding on the outcome.

That will be the case in a couple days when Texas State hosts Louisiana-Lafayette as 3-point favorites at Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos, Texas.

Both teams come in off of 11 days rest to prepare for their primetime showcase. The Ragin’ Cajuns are riding a four-game against the spread losing streak, but the Bobcats have won twice in a row and covered two of their last three.

They’ll get to set the stage for another big weekend of college football, which includes a clash of undefeated teams Saturday night in Tallahassee, Florida. Notre Dame is plus-12 on the betting line against Florida State in the marquee matchup of week 8.
