Vegas Play of the Day: San Jose State at San Diego State

Donnel Pumphrey

Associated Press

San Diego State’s Donnel Pumphrey, a Canyon Springs High grad, runs the ball during the first half against North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014.

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

San Diego State minus-13 vs. San Jose State: $550 to win $500 : San Jose State has lost five straight games, including being shutout two weeks ago at home against Hawaii (yes, Hawaii), and last week scoring just seven points in a blowout loss to Utah State.

It’s the last game of the season for San Jose State, whose players have already checked out. They are simply going through the motions.

That’s far from the case for San Diego State, who at 6-5 overall are playing for a spot in the hometown Poinsettia Bowl. It should score early and often to comfortably cover the spread.

Once San Diego State gets ahead, don’t expect San Jose State to mount much of a comeback. San Jose State scores just 20 points per game, which ranks 113th nationally.

Standings: Bern (57-48-1, $12,286), Keefer (50-58-1, $7,401), Brewer (46-56-3, $2,555)
