Vegas Play of the Day: New Mexico vs. George Mason

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

George Mason plus-6.5 against New Mexico: $330 to win $300

This certainly isn’t the start the Lobos were looking for, as they took a loss yesterday to Boston College that’s worse because they also lost leading scorer Cullen Neal to an ankle injury.

The Albuquerque Journal’s Geoff Grammer reported that there might be ligament damage, so Neal is on the shelf for a while. Yet less than 24 hours later, New Mexico is right back on the court against George Mason. The Lobos are certainly better than the Patriots, even without Neal, but losing a point guard isn’t a simple transaction.

Senior Hugh Greenwood will slide back over to distributor, the role he’s played most of his career, after starting the year as a shooting guard. That experience should help, but in the immediate aftermath, I’ll take the points against a team that has to make a change like that.

Standings: Bern (54-48-1, $11,286), Keefer (48-57-1, $6,831), Brewer (46-55-3, $3,105)
