Vegas Play of the Day: Kansas at Iowa State

DeAndre Kane Iowa State

Associated Press

Iowa State guard DeAndre Kane is carried off the floor due to an injury following a loss to Oklahoma in an NCAA college basketball game in Norman, Okla., on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014. Oklahoma won 87-82.

When we rolled out this Play of the Day feature, the most common comment I saw was that people couldn’t wait to bet against us. In that regard, we’re your dream come true.

The Sun team is nearing a winless opening week, with the three of us a combined 0-5-1 so far. It’s all up to me, which means you know which side you should be betting. On with what will look like a homer pick:

Kansas plus-2 at Iowa State: $220 to win $200

I’m actually a believer in Hilton Magic, or at the very least a believer in Fred Hoiberg. That guy is one of the best college coaches in the country right now outside of the main power brokers (Tom Izzo, Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim, etc.).

The problem is that the Cyclones may have to play without or perhaps with a limited DeAndre Kane. Iowa State’s best player injured his ankle at the end of Saturday’s loss at Oklahoma, which was a nice win for former UNLV coach Lon Kruger.

People around the Cyclone program seem to be confident that Kane will play, but it’s not a sure thing. Plus, who knows if he’ll be able to play up to his abilities. Kansas has plenty of its own issues, but Iowa State is a different team without Kane so this is purely an opportunity play.

Standings: Bern (0-1, $9,670), Brewer (0-1-1, $9,230), Keefer (0-3, $8,975)
