Vegas Play of the Day: Western Illinois at Denver

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point.

Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Western Illinois plus-11 at Denver: $330 to win $300

It’s possible that this game will be unwatchable, even to those who bet it. Western Illinois and Denver were the two slowest teams in the country last season, according to kenpom.com, and neither has sped things up much since then.

Denver won the first matchup by 12 in what could be considered a shootout (67-55). Since then Western Illinois has lost four of five and it boasts one of the worst offenses in the country. Obviously I don’t feel great about siding with that kind of team but there wasn’t much on the board I liked and I do think there’s some value in betting that this game will stay close.

Denver has a decent offense but neither team wants to get out and run. The fewer possessions will mean fewer opportunities for the Leathernecks to get blown out. Here’s to an unwatchable, plodding game that stays in a single-digit margin.

Standings: Bern (11-6, $11,120), Keefer (5-7, $8,717.50), Brewer (5-8-2, $8,010)
