Vegas Play of the Day: Creighton at Marquette

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point.

Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Creighton minus-3 at Marquette: $440 to win $400

I’m violating my preference to not bed on road favorites, but there wasn’t much on Wednesday’s college basketball board that I liked. I think UNLV as a slight home underdog is a decent bet, but at the same time I’m aware that no one really has any idea how the Rebels are going to play from game to game.

The Bluejays are one of the most consistent teams in the country and although it’s on the road they match up well with Marquette. I saw Marquette play at the MGM Grand back in December and came away unimpressed. The Golden Eagles have bounced back of late, winning four of their last five, but when they went to Creighton back on New Year’s Eve they lost by 18.

When Marquette is playing well they create a lot of turnovers and keep the score low. However, they’re susceptible to getting into an up-and-down and while the Golden Eagles are the best in the Big East at taking the ball away, the Bluejays are the league’s best at keeping it.
