Vegas Play of the Day: New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers

The Play of the Day, which features odds from the South Point and a starting bankroll of $10,000, has completely neglected one of the two sets of playoffs currently in action.

Welcome back to the mix, hockey. Please reward my attention with a game that settles as smoothly as the ice after a Zamboni trip.

New York Rangers minus-105 at Philadelphia Flyers: $315 to win $300

The Flyers surviving long enough to force a sixth game of this series is a borderline miracle. This projected as one of the more lopsided first-round matchups in the NHL playoffs, and has truly played out that way.

The Rangers have scored five more goals than the Flyers. New York has taken 29 more shots than Philadelphia.

The luck of the Flyers runs out Tuesday. I can’t pretend to be anything close to a hockey expert, but the most rudimentary betting rule is to back the better goalie.

Give me New York’s Henrik Lundqvist over Philadelphia’s Steve Mason without hesitation. Philadelphia playing on home ice at the Wells Fargo Center is a concern, but not a big enough one to overtake the ultimate truth: New York is a far superior team.

Standings: Bern (21-16-1, $10,600), Keefer (18-19, $9,708), Brewer (14-20-3, $6,095)
