Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.
Cincinnati Reds (-110) at Chicago Cubs: $550 to win $500 : Cincinnati starter Homer Bailey is out to prove something with this start. In the offseason, Bailey signed a multiyear contract with the Reds for more than $100 million. But he hasn’t performed like a front-line starter in three outings this season, entering today’s game at Chicago with an 8.16 ERA and giving up six home runs.
Don’t be alarmed by the ugly stat line.
Two of those starts came against St. Louis, which is the best team in the National League Central and always plays the Reds tough. And Bailey has 17 strikeouts in 14 innings — a good indicator that his pitches are still confusing batters.
Chicago is one of the worst teams in baseball. This is a perfect spot for Bailey to get his mojo back. It’s a perfect spot for bettors to make a quick profit, too.
Standings: Bern (19-15, $10,130), Keefer (16-18, $8,833), Brewer (13-19-3, $6,115)
