51s thrash River Cats, 9-1, for fifth win in six days

The Las Vegas 51s' bats remained white hot, Fabio Castro was nearly untouchable on the mound for six innings and Mike Basso's club won for the fifth time in six days, earning a 9-1 victory over Sacramento on Sunday afternoon at Cashman Field.

The win was the first for Castro, who allowed just 3 hits and a walk while throwing 98 pitches.

Of course, after the first inning, he never pitched without a lead.

The 51s took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the third, then proceeded to score 8 runs over the next 5 innings.

Three Las Vegas players had at least 3 hits, paced by young catcher J.P. Arencibia, who in one day bumped his batting average from .204 to .231 with a 4-for-5 performance. He also had 3 RBI, clubbing his third homerun of the season and his 11th double.

Centerfielder Buck Coats also had 4 hits, including 2 doubles.

The hottest hitter of them all in recent days, though -- first baseman Brett Harper -- kept up his torrid pace.

Harper was unable to extend his 4-game homerun streak, but drove in two runners by going 3-for-5. He is now hitting .339 for the season and has 27 RBI.

The 51s go for a 4-game sweep of the defending PCL champs on Monday in a contest that gets going at 10:35 a.m. Brian Burres will take the mound for Vegas, and he'll be dueling with Edgar Gonzalez.

Following Monday's contest, the 51s head to Tennessee for 8 games in 8 days, with 4-game sets against Memphis and Nashville.
