51s thumped in series opener with Tacoma, 9-2; Recover for 4-0 Sunday triumph

Behind a home run and 4 RBI from John LaHair, Tacoma took care of the 51s on Saturday night at Cashman Field, 9-2, to open up a 4-game set.

It was the fourth loss in the last five games for the 51s, who never led in the contest.

Lefty Brian Burres took the loss for Las Vegas, surrendering 5 runs in 6.2 innings pitched. Four of Tacoma's runs came in the team's final two at-bats.

Fellow lefthander Brad Mills, however, stopped the bleeding for the 51s on Sunday, throwing 7 shutout innings in a 4-0 triumph.

The 24-year-old struck out 11 Tacoma batters and allowed only 4 hits, leaving the game following the seventh with a 1-0 lead, thanks to Buck Coats scoring from third on a wild pitch back in the first.

In the bottom of the eighth, the 51s added three more runs, while reliever Bryan Bullington threw two innings to earn the save.

The 51s have two more contests with Tacoma to wrap up the series at 7:05 p.m. both Monday and Tuesday night at Cashman Field.
