Aaron Mathews’ two-run double in the fifth inning Monday afternoon lifted the Las Vegas 51s to a 6-4 victory at the Sacramento River Cats in the finale of a four-game series.
Las Vegas, which avoided a series sweep with the win, took the lead for good with a two-run third inning. Mathews, who finished with three RBIs, singled home Jonathan Diaz and Angel Sanchez doubled and scored on a Buck Coats sacrifice fly.
Sacramento scored two runs in the ninth inning to makes things interesting off reliever Jeremy Accardo.
Las Vegas returns home at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday to open a four-game series at Cashman Field against the Portland Beavers.
