Randy Ruiz walks back to the dugout after hitting a home run during the Las Vegas 51s home opener against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Cashman Field in Las Vegas Friday, April 17, 2009.

Las Vegas 51s slugger Randy Ruiz could not have asked for a better homecoming.

Ruiz on Tuesday was promoted to the Toronto Blue Jays and is in the starting lineup at designated hitter for a road game at the New York Yankees. Ruiz is a native of the Bronx, N.Y., home of the new Yankees Stadium.

Ruiz took the roster spot of Alex Rios, who was claimed off waivers Monday by the Chicago White Sox.

Ruiz, 31, leads Las Vegas with 25 home runs and 106 RBIs. He made his big league debut last year with the Minnesota Twins, batting .274 in 22 games with one home run.
