A pitcher's duel early turned into a shootout late, and Sacramento prevailed in a 7-4 victory over Las Vegas on Monday night, dealing the 51s their third consecutive setback.
24-year-old lefty Brad Mills went strong into the fourth inning, when Sacramento slugger Sean Doolittle hit the first of his two home runs on the night. It was a solo shot.
Las Vegas took its only lead of the night in the top of the sixth, when Randy Ruiz and Jason Lane drove in a run apiece to push the 51s ahead, 2-1.
The River Cats then blew the doors off, scoring six runs over the next two innings, including Doolittle's second bomb in the seventh to cap the run.
Mills fell to 0-2 on the season, while Edgar Gonzalez threw seven strong innings for Sacramento to improve to 2-1.
The 51s, now 5-13, have a quick turnaround, as they'll try to avoid a four-game sweep on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 11:35 a.m.
