Cashman Field loses its major-league record

Las Vegas lost some major-league status Saturday.

In the first three games at the new Yankee Stadium, Thursday through Saturday, 17 home runs were smacked between the Yankees and Cleveland Indians.

That set a record for the first three games at any stadium in major-league history.

Cashman Field had held the record.

Beat some buddies for a beer at some bar with that trivia question.

When construction delays at Oakland Coliseum forced the Athletics to play their first six games of the 1996 season in Las Vegas, the stage was set for a record that held for 13 years.

The A’s and Detroit Tigers belted 13 homers in the first three-game series of that season at Cashman.

That had been the record, until Saturday.
