Heads-up poker tourney down to the final four

The National Heads-Up Poker Championship at Caesars Palace is down to the final four, with a first-place prize of $500,000 on the line in tournament action later this afternoon and this evening.

Phil Ivey faces Chris Ferguson in one semifinal, with Huck Seed squaring off against Andy Bloch in the other.

Ferguson made the final four for the third time in the tournament's four years by beating Jonathan Little, while Ivey defeated Gus Hansen, Seed got past David Benyamine, and Bloch put an end to Orel Hershiser's surprising run.

The remaining four players are ranked among poker's most accomplished and respected professionals. To wit, all four were in the top 11 of the Sun's odds to win the 64-entrant tournament, which were printed in a column last Wednesday. Ferguson was the favorite (22-1), with Bloch at 24-1, Ivey 25-1 and Seed 32-1.
